A Suggested Template for a letter to the Bishop Dear Bishop: …….As the enclosed statement, (“Franz Jagerstatter People to Break The Silence” * ) indicates, we write to formally request your blessing to gather in our Cathedral, before the Blessed Sacrament for the coming forty day lenten journey, praying and fasting in reparation for our silence and the silence of our church in not condemning the invasion and ongoing occupa-tion of Iraq by our military.. …….This war has been declared unjust by Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and the majority of religious leaders throughout the world. We also ask that you as the spiritual leader of our Diocese, join us to whatever extent possible, to witness to the Gospel mandate of non-violent love during this time. …….Our hope would be to have a presence in our Cathedral from the cele-bration of the Eucharist on Ash Wednesday morning to the Celebration of the Ester Vigil on Holy Saturday. We will work out the logistical details with the Cathedral rector. We would also like to meet with you personally to share more deeply our intentions. We will be in contact with your office to set up an appointment with you. Let us continue to pray for one another,
Sincerely,
