(1) Most Rev Michael D. Pfeifer, O.M.I. Bishop of San Angelo
(1) The first message that the Risen Christ gave to His Apostles when they were gathered together was "Peace be with you!" Jesus repeated this message to them so that they would know that He very much wanted to give them and through them peace to our world. True peace is a gift from God our Father, and must be accepted on God's terms. Has the world really tried to use the peace plan that has been offered by Christ? In His great teaching on the Beatitudes, Christ specifically identifies who will be the children of God--"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." The gift of peace is constantly being offered to us by our Risen Savior who suffered and died to bring about reconciliation and peace to our world. Peace is a gift, and we have to make the choice of freely receiving it into our hearts and minds, and extend it to the world on God's terms. Jesus didn't just say blessed are those who speak or preach about peace, but He specifically said that we, to be His children, must make every effort to bring about peace in our world--we are called to be peacemakers. I strongly encourage all of my brother bishops, and all the people of our country, to come together for a day of prayer during the season of Lent, and to do some penance and fasting, as we pray that we will open our hearts to receive on God's terms the beautiful gift of peace that is being offered to us by Jesus Christ. If we do, we will indeed make a better world. -Bishop Mike, January, 2008 Most Rev Michael D. Pfeifer, O.M.I. Bishop of San Angelo
